But I wasn’t always a copywriter.
I was (and still am) a whitewater rafting guide…
A semi-famous Shakespeare teacher…
An award-winning high school writing coach…
A YouTuber (in a very small, very niche circle)…
And, for a brief moment, a background extra in Boondock Saints (true story).
So yeah—I've worn a few helmets.
I spent 30 years helping students find their voices and shape their stories.
Turns out, that’s not all that different from what I do now.
The difference? Now I help businesses find their voice and shape their customer’s journey.
I was a Maine Teacher of the Year state finalist and a Milken Educator Award winner. I’ve also been named Penobscot Guide of the Year (more than once) and won enough customer service awards to prove I actually like people.
But somewhere between faculty meetings and FAFSA night, I realized something:
Most “official” systems are bloated, boring, and broken.
Especially… websites.
I started a YouTube channel to earn some side income from my rafting content. I studied marketing.
I wrote emails, landing pages, SEO blogs. Then Miles Beckler looked at my writing and said,
“Dude… forget YouTube. You’re a copywriter.”
He was right.
I went deep—studying the great copywriters and marketers:
Terry Dean, Frank Kern, Kevin Rogers, Perry Marshall, Andre Chaperon, Shawn Twing.
The deeper I got, the more I saw the same problem:
